Out-of-pocket Costs Explained in Under 3 Minutes

When it comes to health insurance, we all want to know how much we’ll have to pay when we need care. Our health plans may be different, but those plans still have some things in common: deductibles, copays and coinsurance*. Together, these things make up your cost share. If you need a refresher about your copay, deductible and coinsurance amounts, log in to hap.org, and click Benefits in the My Plan tab to review your Summary of Benefits and Coverage. It provides a detailed breakdown of your personal benefits plan.

HAP members (with the exception of those with Medicare) can also access our Health Care Cost Estimator to search for and compare treatment costs, and get an estimate of their personal out-of-pocket costs.

*Some plans do not have coinsurance. Check your Summary of Benefits and Coverage to see if your plan has coinsurance.
